october 2010, we hardly knew ye'! it's come and gone so quickly, yet it was one of the best and busiest months in awhile! four- count 'em- four of my favorite ladies had birthdays this month! i've been on a serious amy sedaris kick lately, so i gave TWO people copies of her first book, i like you: hospitality under the influence (which i'm obsessed with and have given many times), in preparation for her new craft book which comes out tuesday! (i'm crossing my fingers that todd oldham photographed again.) and i love the vintage cats (one of which i kept, sorta like best friend necklaces i rationalized) and the anthropologie pencils, so i'm showing them off here so i can keep lookin' at them. i think amy would like them too.

last year R and his bandmates taped an episode of yo gabba gabba! in LA, and an eternity later it aired (i think it's still on our DVR). my friends and i are all big gabba fans (though most of them have the excuse of being parents), so going to see yo gabba gabba live here in jacksonville yesterday morning was "awesooooooome!" especially because BK led a dancey dance and taught the little ones to do the 'peanut butter squish'. i was partial to the dancing chicken leg during the party in my tummy number... bad vegetarian?

yesterday we drove to orlando in murderous rush hour traffic for a very lovely evening. i bought tickets to see phoenix at house of blues months ago, and the big night happened to arrive in the midst of one of our busiest weeks of the month. worth it!
(obviously a 2.5 hour drive home late at night requires a coffee stop; sometimes donuts get involved.)

sometimes someone throws a cinder block through your nice weekend's window, and you need a little pick-me-up. (yes old friends, these are the same photos i stuck in my myspace blog in 2005!) beautiful björk photographed by juergen teller, styled by venetia scott, from self service magazine, summer 2001.

as i mentioned last month, i'm learning to play tennis. at age 29. my boyfriend and another good friend of ours are all taking lessons together, clinic style, from a tennis whiz i feel privileged to learn from. he promises me i've shown great improvement, but i get a tad disheartened when a four-year-old girl waltzes up to the court next to us and outshines me with her forehand. i'm not here to complain; i'm really enjoying it! the weather's so nice and naturally we're spending more time outdoors since we go out four times a week. i secretly enjoy hearing R laugh at my lack of grace on the court, and i know our instructor gets a kick out of me too (i catch him smirking sometimes).
this evening wasn't my finest practice- my mind wandered everywhere but where my focus should be. namely on a craving for mexican, wondering when i'll be good enough to show up at the court in stella mccartney for adidas, and wanting to show you the amazing print on the 70s deadstock tennis top i recently scored. stella's gonna have to wait.

i've been wanting to mention this for a couple weeks now, but i had to wait until the final shoe was unveiled yesterday! members of animal collective have designed limited edition shoes for keep. having been a fan of both a.c. and keep shoes for ages, i've been eager to see each new shoe for the last four weeks! (nothing tops the baby kicks!) what makes this collaboration even better is that proceeds go to benefit soccorro island conservation. (the bonus cassette of previously unreleased animal collective jams also sweetens the deal!) i'm happy with my old gingham ramos, but i think i've persuaded le boyfriend to snag a pair before it's too late. after all, he once told me his favorite cause is "water."

it's finally here! i've been so excited for orla kiely's 304-page coffee table book, pattern. it arrived in the mail today! usually i'm the one trucking to the post office to mail packages to etsy shoppers; it feels nice to get a little treat myself! here are just a few pretty peeks.
