birthday girls

uh oh. when two out of three blog posts are felinecentric, i think we see where this thing is headed. i promise i'm not a cat lady! but! i've been thinking so much about birthdays lately (it seems for the last few months someone i know has got one every week), that i wanted to share photos with you from jude's (may) and my (july) birthdays respectively!

we used her first birthday as an excuse to throw a big vegetarian bbq and have all our friends over. i think she loved all the kisses and catnip.

almost as amazing as jude's new pirate ship were the sweet gifts my friends brought to my vegetarian birthday bbq! (what can i say? my guy grills a mean veggie burger.) the handcrafted necklace from my ohsotalented pal melissa has been a staple accessory since july 16th.

every girl should keep this pint-sized book in her clutch!

in other cat-related news, j's baby photo was featured on the world's sweetest tumblr, dreamcats! a must-bookmark. i've also got this crazy cute tiny-fit cat tapestry vest for sale in my vintage shop right now! meow, ladies.

cassie

R has spent a great deal of time in the UK, and this summer he introduced me to their much more scandalous, much more realistic answer to our gossip girl-- skins. i devoured the first two seasons on netflix, and now feel bummed that i won't be swearing in front of my parents and partying vicariously through my new english high school pals anymore. one of my favorite characters, cassie, whose response to nearly everything was a breathy "oh... wowwww, lovely", was my favorite to watch. i identified with her sense of style, usually pairing vintage skirts and dresses with girlie tees and accessories. (i hope this wasn't a nod to the fact that she was supposed to be a bit crazy...)

jude

i can think of no better way to CAT-apult myself into the blogosphere than by introducing you to my 9-pound sidekick, miss jude youngblood. last summer (may 20, 2009 to be exact!), a sweet neighborhood cat ran into our front stairwell to escape a florida summer torrential downpour. within an hour, she was birthing five tiny kittens quite literally on our doorstep. surprise! my boyfriend and i were not cat people and knew pretty much nothing about them; yet we spent our summer taking care of mama, fostering the babies, and making sure they all found a loving home when they were ready. j was our pick of the litter and we have spent the last year lovin' on her hard! i have a feeling she'll be sneaking into my blog entries quite frequently, so you should get acquainted!
